Fabulous counters 29.6.20

Good morning Nursery,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a new week ahead!

Today we are going to do something a little bit different.

We are going to be looking at counting today and practising different ways of counting. In Nursery, we focus on numbers 0-10, so today I would like you to practise counting forwards and backwards from 0-10 and then from 10-0.

Then I would like you to think about some of the Nursery rhymes we have practised in Nursery to help you to count, for example: 10 green bottles, 10 in a bed, 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive.

Have a go at singing these Nursery rhymes with your grown ups and then have some talk time about what is happening to the numbers in the song, some questions could be:

  1. What number does the song start at? Is this the biggest or smallest number? How do you know this?
  2. What is happening to the number of things in the song? E.g. are they getting smaller or bigger? How do you know?
  3. In the song are you counting backwards or forwards? How do you know?
  4. In 10 green bottles for example, how many bottles are falling of the wall each time? Adults - model language of 'one less' 'fewer bottles' 'taking one away each time'.

Enjoy your singing and counting today Nursery, I know you will all be superstars at this activity!

Missing you all, lots of love,
