Year 2

Welcome to Year 2’s Class Page

Welcome to our Year 2 Class Page. Mrs Rigby, Miss Shirley and I are so excited for the year ahead. We are going to be very busy learning lots of new things and having fun!

Please find some key information below that you may find useful.

Key Information

Reading

Children must bring in their reading book and book bag everyday so they can be read with by a member of staff and get their book changed. We aim to read with every child at least twice a week. A new book cannot be given until the old one is returned. Unfortunately, there is a £5 charge for any lost books; this will be reimbursed if you find the book at a later date.

Children are recommended to read their book a minimum of 3 times before it is changed, so that children can build clarification, comprehension and fluency. Children are given a reading record, so if you could please comment in the planner when you have listened to your child read.

Children that are on stages 1 to 9 will be sent home with two reading books a week, one phonics book and one Oxford Owl book. Once children move onto stage 10 (chapter book) they will be sent home with their reading book and a comprehension to match.

Homework

Spelling homework will be sent home every Monday. Their spellings are made up of 5 of the Year 2 Common Exception Words. Any additional homework will be sent home also on a Monday and can be returned any day of that week. Homework is kept to a minimum ensuring the children are given lots of opportunity to read at home.

Water bottles and Snack

It would be brilliant if every child has a named, water bottle in school to enable them to drink as much as possible. Snack is provided for the children in Year 2 so they do not need to bring in their own. However, if they do wish to bring in a snack this must be a healthy snack.

PE

Our PE days for Autumn term are Monday and Thursday. Children will need to come in to school wearing their PE kit on these days. They will keep this on for the whole day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch,

Thank you for your support,

Miss McKimm
