The Governors have carefully considered the administering of medication to children either by teaching or non-teaching staff and have decided that medicine can only be administered by trained staff. Medicine will only be administered if parents or a family member can not attend school to administer them during the day. Parents should complete an ‘Administering Medication in School’ form at the school office when dropping off medicine at school and should sign a declaration each day when collecting the medicine from the school office. Asthma inhalers should be handed to the class teacher and an Asthma Plan completed.
If a child suffers from a long term or chronic illness which may require medication or other provision to be made available in school, parents must inform the school immediately and decisions will be taken on how to cater for the child’s individual needs.
