Welcome to our Year 6 class page!
This page has all the information you will need to know about what is going on in Year 6 this year.
Please keep up to date with our school app, our Twitter (X) page and Instagram page.
Key Information
Reading
Children all have a home reading book which they read both in school and at home. When the children have read the books fully and are able to answer questions to demonstrate their understanding their books will be changed. It is important that each time the children read at home their reading record is signed. Reading books are to come into school every day, so if there is any extra time in the day we can read with the children.
Please take any opportunity to read! Read to yourself, read to a younger sibling, read to a relative, read a magazine, read the menu at a café or read the subtitles on a TV programme!
We love reading in Year 6 and have a plethora of amazing class readers to enjoy as well as a full library!
Homework
Children will receive spelling homework on Monday. They will then take them home, learn them and return them on Friday when they will be tested. They will also receive maths homework on a Friday to be completed and returned on Monday.
General Information
In Year 6, we expect all children to take charge of their own learning.
There are many opportunities to do this such as logging on to the following learning platforms for 20 minutes each day.
- Times Tables Rockstars
- IXL
- Reading Plus
Children have their own log in details for all of the above but if they have been forgotten, please see any of our staff and we will give you a replacement.
Water bottles
It would be brilliant if every child has a water bottle for school to enable them to drink as much as possible during the school day, especially when the weather is warm and for after P.E. lessons. If your child would like to bring a snack for playtime, we encourage them to eat a healthy snack.
PE
Year 6 will be swimming the week commencing 8th September. They will go swimming twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On those days, children can come into school wearing their PE kits and should bring their swimming kit to get changed into. Our school P.E. kit is maroon shorts and a yellow top. If it is cold, children can wear leggings under their school shorts or wear jogging bottoms.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
